YouCam is a beauty-AR giant that recently added AI clothing features. TryItOn is built from the ground up for trying on real products while you shop. They overlap less than it looks — here's where each one wins.

YouCam, made by Perfect Corp, is a beauty powerhouse: best-in-class makeup and hairstyle AR, polished photo and video editing, and over a billion downloads. It has added an AI clothes-changer, but that's a styling and editing feature using preset looks and prompts — not a way to try on a specific garment you're about to buy from a specific store. TryItOn is purpose-built for that shopping moment: try on real products from nearly any store, across clothing, shoes, eyewear, jewelry, hats, hairstyles and tattoos, via a browser extension, web app and mobile apps. For makeup AR, choose YouCam. For deciding what to buy across the rest of fashion, choose TryItOn.
YouCam's home turf is beauty and photo editing. TryItOn's is trying on real products across any store.
A side-by-side look at how the two virtual try-on experiences stack up across the things shoppers actually care about.
| Feature | TryItOn | YouCam |
|---|---|---|
| Primary focus | ✓Trying on real fashion products to decide what to buy. | Makeup and beauty AR plus AI photo editing. |
| Real product try-on | ✓Yes — try the exact item from a store. | Mostly preset styles and AI prompts, not a specific product. |
| Shop on any store | ✓Yes — browser extension and screenshots. | No consumer extension; try-on on brand sites is B2B only. |
| Fashion categories | ✓Clothing, shoes, eyewear, jewelry, headwear, hairstyles, tattoos. | Makeup, hair, and a newer AI clothes-changer; no shoes/tattoos. |
| Beauty / makeup AR | ≈Not the focus. | Best-in-class, real-time makeup and hair AR. |
| Platforms | ≈Web, iOS, Android, browser extension. | Web, iOS, Android (no consumer extension). |
| Pricing | ≈Free to start; paid plans for heavy use. | Free with ads; premium subscriptions and credit packs. |
| Privacy | ≈Photos private, never sold or used to train AI, deletable anytime. | Strong stance: much AR on-device; web photos deleted ~24h. |
✓ = clear advantage · ≈ = roughly even. Assessment by the TryItOn team, June 2026.
YouCam is a family of apps from Perfect Corp (a public company), led by YouCam Makeup and the YouCam Online Editor. Its reputation is built on beauty: real-time makeup try-on, dozens of hairstyles and hair colors, skin analysis, and a deep AI photo and video editor — all backed by patented facial-tracking AR and over a billion downloads.
More recently YouCam added an AI Clothes Changer that swaps outfits in a photo using preset styles or text prompts. It's fun and capable, but it's a styling and editing tool: it doesn't let you try on the specific jacket you're eyeing on a retailer's product page.
The key difference: YouCam is a beauty-AR and editing app that can change clothes for styling. TryItOn is a shopping tool that puts the exact product on you so you can decide to buy.
The most important distinction is intent. YouCam's clothing feature is about transforming a photo — pick from preset outfits or describe a look and let the AI generate it. That's great for content and experimentation.
TryItOn is about a purchase decision. You take the actual item from the store you're shopping and see it on you, so the preview reflects what you'd actually receive. That product accuracy is the whole reason a shopper reaches for try-on.
TryItOn's browser extension adds a try-on button across product pages on nearly any store, and you can also drop in a screenshot from anywhere. It's designed to live where you shop.
YouCam has no consumer browser extension for trying on items as you browse. Perfect Corp does power try-on on some brand websites, but that's an enterprise integration controlled by each brand — not a tool you can point at any store yourself.
Be clear-eyed about strengths: for makeup, lipstick, eyeshadow, hair color and real-time beauty AR, YouCam is excellent and hard to beat. If beauty is your main use case, it's the right app.
For the rest of fashion — clothing, shoes, eyewear, jewelry, hats, hairstyles and tattoos applied to your own photo so you can buy with confidence — TryItOn is the broader, more shopping-focused tool.
Both take privacy seriously. Perfect Corp states that much of its AR runs on-device and that web try-on photos are deleted after about 24 hours.
TryItOn keeps your photos private, never sells or shares them with brands, never uses them to train AI, and lets you delete them at any time. Both are reasonable choices on privacy; the difference is what you're trying to accomplish.

YouCam is primarily a beauty-AR and photo-editing app. It has an AI clothes-changer that uses preset styles and prompts, but it isn't designed to try on a specific product from a store. TryItOn is built for trying on real products across any store.
YouCam. Its real-time makeup and hair AR is best-in-class. TryItOn focuses on fashion try-on — clothing, shoes, eyewear, jewelry, hairstyles and tattoos.
Not as a consumer tool — there's no YouCam browser extension for trying on items as you browse. TryItOn's extension works on nearly any store, and you can also upload a screenshot.
Makeup AR isn't TryItOn's focus. TryItOn specializes in fashion and style try-on across clothing, footwear, accessories, hairstyles and tattoos. For makeup specifically, YouCam is the stronger choice.
Both are free to start. YouCam is free with ads and offers premium subscriptions and credit packs; TryItOn is free to start with paid plans for heavy use.
Both are reasonable. Perfect Corp runs much AR on-device and deletes web photos after about 24 hours. TryItOn keeps photos private, never sells them or uses them to train AI, and lets you delete them anytime.
